Hundreds in Harmony III, promoted by WMPMVC at Symphony Hall, Birmingham 2005
The
choir was formed in 1955 as the Birmingham City Police Male Voice Choir.
With boundary changes in the 1970s was renamed to the
President The Chief Constable Chris Sims OBE., MA (oxon)., MBA.

Our aim now, as it was at our formation over
fifty years ago, is to use our hobby to help needy and deserving people and causes.
It is impossible to calculate precisely, but the choir has raised hundreds of
thousands of pounds for charity so far; and we intend to go on doing just that.
Group and Charity organisers, audiences and the people we deal with and
entertain are far more demanding these days. To meet this, we have developed a
team that can and does cope with anything from small concerts in village halls
across the Midlands to huge massed choir events in Europe's premier music
venue, our own Symphony Hall.
We have developed a series of massed Male Voice concerts, staged every two
years or so, called 'Hundreds in Harmony'. Our last one in the series was in
October 2005 and raised some £1800 for the charities. This brings the total
raised for charities in this particular series to around £10,000. Each show
starred professional celebrities including Richard Stilgoe and Radio WM's Ed
Doolan and Professor Carl Chinn who is the patron of the choir. There is a CD
and video of the event which can be obtained through the choir.
OUR TEAM
Musical Director
We now have a Musical Director, Jacob Fifer, B. Ed. (Hons), Cert. Ed. ALCM . a talented musician who is studying music at The Birmingham Conservatoire as a mature student. There has already been an improvement in the quality of singing under his leadership.
We are extremely lucky to have as the other
professional in the Music Team, Jean M Lowe, GRSM(Lond). ARCM. LRAM. Member of
The Incorporated Society of Musicians. Jean Is an accomplished concert pianist
in her own right, and is very much in demand as a teacher of piano. Those who
have witnessed her sensitive playing will be enthralled and will understand how
fortunate the choir is to benefit from her expertise. Jean specially arranges
many choir pieces for us.
CAN WE HELP YOU? If you would like to find out how the choir can help you, or your organisation, we are also available for private functions, weddings, Ladies' Evenings, etc., please contact our Webmaster or any choir member.
